New Registration Option in 2023 . . .

In response to requests to provide an option to break up the back-to-back format of the traditional two-day seminar, registrants can now choose which day to sit for Sections A-B and Sections C-D. If a registrant wishes to sit for consecutive days as in the past, simply select those dates. If a registrant wants to split up the presentations into two separate 8-hour days, simply make those selections on the fee selection page of your online registration.

About the GEAR UP 1040 Virtual Seminar . . .

The two-day GEAR UP 1040 Virtual Seminar navigates through all 2023 federal tax changes and applicable prior year changes, IRS guidance and administrative actions, court decisions, and any developments that impact advising 1040 clients and preparing their returns. Presenters who do exactly what you do - prepare taxes - provide expert analysis to insure you can effectively counsel clients on their reporting and tax management options. They also answer your questions in real time by monitoring the Q&A throughout each session. Questions are sent privately and often solve those unique client issues that can take hours to research!


GEAR UP 1040 presentations are supported by a PDF of the 700-plus page reference guide for use during the sessions, along with any available presenter slides or aids elaborating on the presentations. For an additional $50 fee, registrants can order a paper copy of the workbook housed in a 3-ring binder that is delivered in advance of your first day presentation. Simply select that option on the fee payment page of your online registration. If presenter slides for the seminar are available, these will also be forwarded to you prior to the event.

As 1040 income continues to decrease with free and inexpensive online options for taxpayers, growing services in more specialized areas is essential. Frequently Asked Questions
About Virtual Seminars.

I don’t live in Michigan, can I still attend and earn CPE credits?

Yes! GEAR UP is a registered CPE provider with the IRS and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), and MTAP is an Approved CPE provider with the Internal Revenue Service. So CPE credits earned at each event qualify for IRS and CPA requirements in every state. 

When will I receive my CPE certificate?

Certificates of Completion are issued via email within a week after the event. If you provide your Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) on your registration, the credits you earn will be automatically uploaded into your IRS PTIN account within 2-4 weeks after the event.

If you report CPEs to your state board of accountancy, simply use your emailed Certificate of Completion to upload your credits into your CPA-designated portal and/or as part of any random audit you may be asked to fulfill. 

Is it easy to log in and access the virtual seminar?

Yes! One of the concerns practitioners have about virtual webinars is logging in and accessing sound through their computing system. GEAR UP’s virtual webinar platform is, by far, the easiest to use that we have tested. By the end of the 2020 virtual seminar season, MTAP didn’t receive any calls from participants having log-in or participation trouble. It’s that easy.

How is my attendance monitored?

To comply with continuing education requirements and verify your attendance, we will conduct quizzes throughout the presentation. Quizzes are simply intended to make sure you are paying attention. The correctness of your answers is not taken into consideration when issuing CE credit.

Can multiple members from our firm watch the virtual seminar from a conference room television or monitor?

Yes! Multiple people may watch from a large screen projection. HOWEVER, each registrant must log in to the virtual seminar from an individual, separate device (smartphone, iPad, tablet, laptop computer) to individually answer polling questions to track time in the virtual room and prove participation. The device must be able to access a Chrome or Firefox browser. Log in must be done using the log-in information emailed to that individual's provided email address.
